Ambassadors

Muscular dystrophy and neuromuscular conditions are rare, which means growing awareness is a difficult (but very important) task.

That is where our Ambassadors step in. They help us, via their professional skills and networks, to increase people’s knowledge of neuromuscular conditions and our organisation and they also help out with raising money at our fundraising events. And where they can, they advocate for us in the media. You can read about these wonderful people here or get to know them at one of our events. If you think you have the profile, skills and network to be a great Ambassador and help raise awareness and support for neuromuscular conditions, we’d love to hear from you. Please email Emma to apply or find out how you can make a difference.

SIMON BEAUMONT
Simon Beaumont is our longest -standing Ambassador and his contribution to Neuromuscular WA is immeasurable (seriously, we’ve tried counting, and it’s impossible). He’s our go-to MC for every major event, bringing warmth, humour and professionalism that ensures no one leaves without feeling connected to our cause.

Since first hosting a Neuromuscular WA event in 2014, Simon has been at the heart of countless occasions, including the Truffles for Muscles auction, Toyota WA Golf Classic, Marquee Day, Kailis Club auction and Carols at Scarborough. A seasoned broadcaster at 6PR and natural communicator, his knack for reading the room, uplifting the crowd and working seamlessly alongside auctioneer Tiny Holly has been key to the success of so many fundraising moments.

Beyond the microphone, Simon’s understanding of neuromuscular conditions shines through. Early in his career, he worked hands-on with boys living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at Rocky Bay Village, an experience that shaped his enduring passion for our community.

Even with a busy schedule, Simon continues to keep us close to his heart. If you cross paths with him at one of our events, be sure to stop and share a chat, Simon’s always ready with a smile, a laugh and a story about why our mission matters.

ADAM VOGES
Perth Scorchers and WA cricket head coach and former Aussie cricketer -Adam Voges first connected with Neuromuscular WA at our prestigious Truffles for Muscles Charity Auction in 2016. From the get-go, Adam showed a genuine interest in our cause, quickly making it his mission to learn more about neuromuscular conditions and how he could help (spoiler: he’s been helping ever since!).

Not long after, Adam was officially welcomed as an Ambassador — and true to form, he hit the ground running. He even jumped into an impromptu radio interview with fellow Ambassador Simon Beaumont, proving he’s just as comfortable behind a mic as he is behind the stumps.

Over the years, Adam has become a familiar and much-loved face at events like the Toyota WA Golf Classics and Kailis Club. His energy, generosity and sporting stories (some of which might even be true!) have made for some truly special auction moments, where guests get the rare chance to share a yarn with a WA sporting legend.

One of the most hotly contested items auctioned at Kailis Club is the Ambassadors' Dinner, an unforgettable night hosted by Adam and his fellow Neuromuscular WA Ambassadors. Think delicious food, big-hearted conversation and plenty of laughs (and maybe a bit of gentle sledging - all in good fun, of course).

Despite his packed schedule, Adam always finds time to support us at community events like HBF Run for a Reason, often with his family in tow and a grin on his face. If you see him around, don’t be shy - say hi!

ROSS WALLMAN
You may have heard of Ross Wallman before… and if not, you’ve almost definitely heard his voice. As a regular announcer on NOVA 93.7, Ross brings the laughs to Perth’s airwaves and just as much heart to our Neuromuscular WA community.

Ross officially joined as an Ambassador in June 2018, after first getting involved through the Hale Mates program in early 2017. As an ex-Hale School graduate, he helped co-found the program, bringing his energy, warmth, and big personality as a mentor and facilitator, making every kid feel welcome, seen and included (and probably laughing within five minutes).

Ross isn’t just a regular at Hale Mates, he’s also one of our most passionate advocates. He champions our community in his wonderfully unique way: whether it’s raising awareness on social media, MCing our events with flair, offering limo rides to families, or just showing up with a smile and a helping hand. He’s practically a one-man show of support!

Next time you spot Ross at an event, stop and say hi - he’s always up for a laugh, a yarn, and a heartfelt reminder of why this cause means so much to him.

We’re so grateful to have Ross as part of the Neuromuscular WA family and we know he brings the same big heart, humour and sparkle to everything he does, especially to his proudest role: dad to two amazing boys.

MATT HADDON
Matt is our youngest ambassador, but don’t let that fool you. In a short time, he’s made a huge impact across our community with his dedication, passion and hands-on involvement (and somehow still manages to have more energy than all of us combined).

An ex-Hale School graduate and now a fully qualified physio, Matt co-founded the Hale Mates program alongside fellow Ambassador Ross Wallman, recognising the importance of connecting Year 11 students with young people living with neuromuscular conditions.

Matt saw the need for adolescents in our community to build genuine friendships and for able-bodied students to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges others face. To this day, Matt still shows up to Hale Mates, bringing his trademark enthusiasm (and usually a few dad jokes) to every session.

But his support doesn’t stop there. Matt’s regularly seen lending a hand at school holiday programs, camps, Carols at Scarborough, and just about every event we throw. He’s also a pro at selling raffle tickets - some say he could sell sand at the beach and has raised significant funds through events like HBF Run for a Reason and his own running events.

When you bump into Matt at an event, you’ll experience his infectious energy firsthand. He’s always up for a chat, a laugh and a heartfelt reminder of why community matters. Matt’s spirit, commitment and big heart make him an invaluable part of the Neuromuscular WA family.
